LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Senior first baseman Stephen Hagen hit two three-run home runs to lead Texas Tech to a 12-7 win at New Mexico on Tuesday afternoon at Presley Askew Field.
The Red Raiders (26-22) won their third straight game while handing the Aggies (30-14) just their fifth loss at home this season (23-5).
Texas Tech scored 10 runs in the middle innings (4th-6th) while center fielder Barrett Barnes (2-for-3), designated hitter Scott LeJeune (3-for-5) and Hagen (2-for-4) combined went 7-for-12 with eight runs, three home runs and six RBI.
Senior reliever Brennan Stewart (1-2) earned his first win of the season while pitching effectively for two innings during the fourth and fifth innings while allowing one run on two hits with a pair of strikeouts and a walk.
New Mexico reliever Casey Collins (3-4) took the loss allowing three runs on six base hits in 0.2 innings pitched.
Aggies jumped out to a 5-0 lead with a homer in the first and with four runs in the third. New Mexico State tallied five base hits in the first three frames.
Barnes led off the fourth with his team-leading eighth homer of the season and three runs followed on an RBI single from third baseman Bryant Burleson and an RBI fielder's choice by second baseman Jamodrick McGruder, cutting the Aggies lead to a run, 5-4.
After New Mexico State added a run in the bottom of the fourth, Hagen blasted a pair of three-run homers in consecutive innings - his first to center field in the fifth and his second over the left-center field wall in the sixth. It marked Hagen's third and fourth home runs of the season, his 12th and 13th of his career and the first game of his career with multiple home runs.
Burleson, who went 3-for-4 with a double, run scored and two RBI, drove in his second run of the game with an RBI double in the ninth, just one batter before McGruder scored Tech's 12th and final run with a single to right field plating score Burleson.
The Red Raiders will continue a five-game road trip this weekend with their final Big 12 Conference series at Texas A&M, May 5-7, in College Station at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park. The series begins with Friday's first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
