NORMAN, Okla. - Texas Tech stranded nine runners, including seven in scoring position, to help the Oklahoma Sooners to a 6-1 win over the Red Raiders on Saturday afternoon at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The win by Oklahoma gives the Sooners the series win marking OU's first-ever series victory over Texas Tech.

Texas Tech (26-22; 7-15) put the first run on the board in the top of the fifth when Scooter Jordan doubled down the right field line scoring Doug Beck from third. Beck reached on a leadoff walk and moved to third on a single by Cooper Fouts. Texas Tech had the bases loaded with just one out in the inning but was unable to extend the lead.
 

 

Oklahoma (18-25; 6-14) came back firing in the bottom half of the fifth as the Sooners mounted a two out two-run inning thanks to an RBI double by Denver Kitch and an RBI single by Reggie Willits.

The Sooners took a 4-1 lead in the sixth on an RBI double by Greg Kish and an RBI sacrifice fly by Russell Raley.

Oklahoma took a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the eighth when Russell Raley hit a two-RBI single to center field with two outs in the inning to give the Sooners a five-run cushion going into the bottom of the ninth.

Dusty Buck suffered the loss for Texas Tech after surrendering four earned runs on seven hits through six innings of work. Casey Brown picked up the win for Oklahoma as he held Texas Tech to just four hits and one earned run through six innings.

Texas Tech will try to salvage the final game of the three-game series on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. The Red Raiders will put junior Steve Gooch on the mound and he will take on Oklahoma's Buddy Blair.

Note: Texas Tech and Oklahoma are now tied for the No. 8 and final spot for the Big 12 Tournament but Texas Tech leads in percentage points at .318 compared to OU's .300.
