LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech came from behind to score two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take the lead, then held off a ninth inning Kansas State rally to defeat the Wildcats 6-5 at Dan Law Field Saturday. The victory improves Texas Tech to 38-17 on the season and 17-11 overall while Kansas State drops to 20-31 overall and 9-18 in the Big 12.

Texas Tech jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the second inning thanks to a three-run first inning highlighted by Keith Ginter's fifth leadoff home run of the season, Josh Bard's RBI double and Jason Landreth's RBI error to leftfield. The Red Raiders added another run in the second on an RBI double by Bard.

Kansas State loaded the bases in the third inning and took advantage as Kasey Weishaar drove a pitch over the leftfield fence for a grand slam to make the score 4-4. The Wildcats took the lead 5-4 in the fourth on an RBI double by Andy Silva. That score stood until the eighth inning.

With two outs, Texas Tech's Keith Ginter reached base on a single, stole second on a controversial call at second and scored on Ryan Ruiz' single to tie the game at 5-5. An error by the KSU third baseman kept the rally alive but Josh Bard came through with his third double of the game which was eventually the game winning RBI.

The Red Raider bullpen relieved starter Monty Ward and kept the Wildcats scoreless. Cade Allison (3-2) earned the victory after pitching 1 2/3 innings, striking out two and allowing one hit and Brad Ralston earned his third save on the season after seeing his first action since April 14 vs. Abilene Christian. Ward pitched the first 7.0 innings and allowed nine hits, five runs. He walked four and struck out eight batters.

Bard had the big day at the plate for Tech. The sophomore finished 3-5 with three RBI and three doubles. Ryan Ruiz finished with a career-high five hits (5-5 performance) and scored three runs and had an RBI, while Keith Ginter went 3-4 with two runs and an RBI. LINESCORE R H E
