Baseball Completes Sweep of Kansas State

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech won its sixth consecutive contest Sunday as it swept Kansas State 18-10 at Dan Law Field. The Red Raiders will enter the Big 12 Conference Tournament on Thursday as the No. 3 seed with a 39-17 overall record and 18-11 conference record. The victory also was the fifth straight Big 12 Conference victory in a row. Kansas State falls to 20-32 overall and 9-19 in the Big 12.
The Red Raiders jumped out to a 9-3 lead after the first inning with nine runs in the bottom of the first but Kansas State battled back to within 10-7 before the Raiders turned it on with four runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Starter Jesse Cornejo (9-3) earned the victory after pitching 5.0 innings and allowing nine hits and seven runs (six earned). The lefthander struck out seven batters. Cade Allison pitched 2 1/3 innings of solid relief while striking out three batters and allowing only one hit, Zach Stewart pitched 2/3 innings and struck out two of three batters and Brad Ralston pitched the final inning.
Ryan Ruiz hit his second home run of the year over the rightfield wall and finished 4-6 with three RBI and three runs, Keith Ginter went 3-4 with four RBI, a home run and a double, Brennan Burns went 3-5 with an RBI and two runs, Josh Bard went 1-4 with two RBI and a run, Jason Landreth finished 2-5 with an RBI, Junior Rodriguez went 2-4 with two RBI, Miles Durham went 2-6 with two RBI and Jason Huth scored four runs on a 3-4 hitting performance.
