Baseball Opens Spring Practice|
Jan. 7, 2007
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Baseball team began preparations for its season opener today with the start of spring practice.
A total of 38 players were in uniform on Sunday afternoon as the Red Raiders officially began the season with a 1 p.m. workout at Dan Law Field.
"It's good to get back out here after the break," said head coach Larry Hays. "The weather looks like it is going to cooperate with us this week and we are going to take advantage of that. We come into the spring pretty healthy so now its time for guys to step up and make some plays and get it going."
There was one new addition to the team as infielder Doug Thennis joined the squad after spending the fall semester at Sacramento City College. Thennis signed with the Red Raiders back in 2005 but did not enroll at Tech until this spring.
The Red Raiders will hit the practice field twice on Monday and Tuesday before taking the day off on Wednesday for the first day of classes. Tech will resume its normal in-season practice schedule with at 2:15 session on Thursday. All practices are open to the public.
Texas Tech opens the 2007 season at home on Feb. 2-4 with a three-game series against Stephen F. Austin. Season tickets are currently on sale through the athletics ticket office or online at www.texastech.com.
