Munson's Home Run Lifts No. 4 USC Over No. 13 Texas Tech 5-4 February 14, 1999 LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Eric Munson's ninth inning solo home run gave No. 4 Southern California a 5-4 victory over No. 13 Texas Tech Sunday at Dedeaux Field. With the victory Southern California won the three game series 2-1. Texas Tech won game one 9-8 while USC took game two 5-3. The Red Raiders fell to 6-2 on the season while USC improved to 3-5. With two outs, Munson nailed a 2-1 pitch over the right field fence for the victory. Munson, a first team All America catcher, finished the day with two home runs and a 2-4, four RBI afternoon. Munson put USC up 3-0 with a three-run home run in the fifth inning. Carlos Casillas hit a solo shot in the sixth inning to put USC up 4-0. Tech spent most of the afternoon battling from behind. USC starter Justin Lehr held Texas Tech hitless until the seventh inning when Jon Weber looped a single over the shortstop's head into leftfield. Josh Bard followed with a double and Allen Marshall drove both Bard and Weber home with a three-run home run. USC still led 4-3. Texas Tech tied the game in the eighth inning when Lance Woodcock got on base with a single, advanced to second on Ryan Ruiz' sacrifice bunt and scored on an RBI single from Jon Weber. Brandon Roberson (1-1) earned the loss after pitching 1.2 innings, striking out three batters and allowing only one hit- Munson's solo home run. Starter Shane Wright went seven innings and allowed 11 hits, four runs (4 ER) and two walks. He struck out eight batters.
