San Diego Tops Texas Tech Baseball 13-10
February 18, 1999 SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego handed No. 13 Texas Tech a 13-10 loss in the first game of the San Diego State College Baseball Classic Wednesday at Cunningham Baseball Stadium. The Red Raiders dropped to 6-4 on the season while San Diego improved to 6-2 overall. Texas Tech lost its fourth straight game for the first time since 1992 when Tech lost six straight in the beginning of the season. The Red Raiders built a 6-0 lead in the fourth inning but San Diego battled back. Tech used a RBI single in the first inning from Josh Bard, a second inning RBI double from David O'Keeffe, a two-RBI triple by Allen Marshall in the third inning and RBI singles in the fourth from Bard and Jason Huth to build its 6-0 lead. San Diego came back to tie with two runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth inning. Tech quickly took the lead back in the sixth inning with a three-run inning to lead 9-6 but the Toreros scored two runs in the seventh and five runs in the eighth to defeat Texas Tech. Marco Cunningham led Texas Tech with three hits. He went 3-5 with three runs, Ryan Ruiz finished 2-4 with an RBI and two runs, Allen Marshall went 2-4 with two RBI, Josh Bard went 2-4 with three RBI, David O'Keeffe went 2-3 with an RBI and run and Jason Huth finished 2-4 with two runs and an RBI. Kevin Reese (1-0) earned the victory after pitching two innings for San Diego. Chris Sampson earned the loss for Texas Tech.
