Texas Tech Baseball Downs New Mexico 12-5

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Texas Tech jumped on New Mexico with a six run first inning as it coasted a 12-5 victory Tuesday at New Mexico's Lobo Field. The victory improved Texas Tech to 10-4 on the season and dropped New Mexico 6-8.
Texas Tech enters Big 12 Conference play on Friday against Kansas at 3 p.m. riding a four-game winning streak.
The Red Raiders scored six runs in the first inning. Miles Durham scored on Josh Bard's one-out double to get things going for Texas Tech. After Brennan Burns walked and Ryan Ruiz reached base on an error, David O'Keeffe launched a grand slam over the left center field fence for a 5-0 lead. Scott Holzhauer kept the rally going and eventually scored on Lance Woodcock's double.
Tech added three runs in the eighth and three in the ninth to put the game away as Jon Weber his his fifth homer of the season.
Starter Brad Ralston (2-0) earned the victory on the mound. He went 6 2/3 innings and allowed eight hits and only three runs (2 ER). He had one strikeout on the afternoon.
O'Keeffe sparked Tech with a 3-4 four RBI and grand slam performance. Bard went 3-6 with an RBI and run, Jon Weber had two RBI on his home run, Marco Cunningham went 2-2 and Lance Woodcock went 1-3 with two RBI.
Vance Bonner (1-1) earned the loss for New Mexico.
