SETTING THE SCENE
Texas Tech enters the game with a 2-2 record after splitting four games over the weekend at the UTSA Baseball Classic at Wolff Stadium in San Antonio. The UTSA tournament was a last minute addition to the schedule for the Red Raiders as Tech was forced to look for games after Northern Illinois cancelled what was supposed to be a four-game opening series at Dan Law Field over the weekend. Northern Illinois cancelled all athletics events until Monday, Feb. 25 due to the tragic shooting on that campus that claimed the lives of five students. The Red Raiders fell victim to then No. 19 Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday morning as the Ragin' Cajuns held Tech to a one-hit shutout and prevailed 4-0. The season opening loss was the first for Tech since the 1998 season when Tech fell to New Mexico 7-6. Texas Tech went on to crush the Army Black Knights 16-2 on Sunday morning but were unable to move their record to 2-1 as Oral Roberts rallied in the seventh inning of a split doubleheader and defeated Tech 7-6. The Red Raiders closed tournament play on Monday afternoon with a 16-6 win over host UTSA to move their record back to .500 at 2-2. Wednesday's game can be heard live on the Texas Tech Sports Network (KKAM 1340) with Robert Giovannetti and Blayne Beal calling the action live from Isotopes Park. The pregame show is scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
