Texas Tech To Retire Larry Hays' Jersey Against LCU|

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Larry Hays' impact on the Texas Tech Baseball program will be celebrated in a special evening dedicated to the man who resurrected the Red Raiders over a span of 22 years when Texas Tech takes on the Lubbock Christian Chaparrals on Monday, March 23 at Dan Law Field.
Texas Tech Director of Athletics Gerald Myers alongside head baseball coach Dan Spencer and the 2009 Red Raiders, will permanently enshrine Hays into the Texas Tech history books by retiring his No. 27 jersey. The pregame ceremony will include various speakers, including Hays, as the Red Raiders take a look back at the career of the NCAA's fourth winningest head coach and the winningest in school history.
Texas Tech fans are urged to purchase tickets in advance for this special evening that is being sponsored by United Supermarkets. Tickets for the game are priced at $8 for adults and $6 for youth while Texas Tech students will be admitted by showing their student ID. Red Raider Baseball is hoping for its first official sellout since the 2000 season when 5,124 fans turned out for a game against the Texas Longhorns.
Hays, who retired in June of 2008, left Texas Tech with a career record of 814-479-3 in 22 years at the school and an overall career mark of1,509-860-04 over 38 years. He helped lead Texas Tech two a pair of regular-season conference titles and two conference tournament titles along with nine NCAA regional appearances. Prior to his arrival on campus, Tech baseball had never won a conference title or made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Texas Tech and LCU will be meeting for the first time since April 13, 1993, and officials from LCU will also be on hand to take part in the ceremony. Hays is the winningest head coach in LCU history with 695 wins and led the Chaps to the 1983 NAIA National Championship.
First pitch is scheduled for approximately 6:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased beginning today by logging on to www.texastech.com. Tickets can be purchased in the Texas Tech Athletics Ticket Office starting Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. or by calling the ticket office at (806) 742-4412.
