March 3, 2014

LUBBOCK, Texas - For the third consecutive week Texas Tech (9-3) received a national ranking on Monday when the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association tabbed Tech No. 30 in this week's poll.

The last time Tech received a national ranking in three straight weeks was in 2012. Texas Tech has started the season with nine wins during its opening 12 games for just the 13th time in school history - and just the fourth time since 1998.

Texas Tech went 2-2 last week - all four games played away from home. The Red Raiders started the road trip with a 5-4 victory at Stephen F. Austin. The Red Raiders completed their road trip on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over No. 10 Rice at Minute Maid Park at the Houston College Classic.

Texas Tech now has four wins this season over top-10 ranked opponents. Tech's win at SFA gave the Red Raiders eight straight victories, marking its longest winning streak since 2002.

The Red Raiders have five batters hitting above .300 on the season with sophomore Eric Gutierrez (.359, 5 RBI), senior Adam Kirsch (.359, 9 RBI) and freshman Ryan Long (.343, 5 RBI) leading the way at the plate.

Tech has a 2.78 team earned run average while eight pitchers have an ERA below two. Tech has two pitchers with multiple wins (Cameron Smith - 3-0, Chris Sadberry - 2-0) this season.

Texas Tech opens a six-game homestand on Tuesday, Mar. 4 hosting New Mexico (8-3-1) for a midweek game starting at 2 p.m. at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
