LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior designated hitter Austin Cranford was named the Big 12 Player of the Week after tallying an impressive performance this past weekend against Oklahoma, the league announced on Monday.

Cranford, a junior from Southlake, Texas, earned Tech's first Player of the Week selection of the 2001 season and joins pitchers Chris Phillips and Brandon Roberson who have each been named Pitchers of the Week this season. Cranford hit an impressive .700 (7 of 10) this past weekend against Oklahoma. He was walked four times during the weekend to reach base officially 11 times in 14 plate appearances for an on-base percentage of .786. He tallied a slugging percentage of 1.500 and scored six runs and hit two home runs for the Red Raiders.
