Texas Tech led the league with 11 Academic All-Big 12 selections

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech baseball program led the Big 12 Conference with 11 Academic All-Big 12 selections, including a league-best seven first team members, the Conference announced this afternoon.
Texas Tech's 11 Academic All-Big 12 selections mark the most in program history. Leading the way for the Red Raiders with first team selections include, junior Bo Altobelli (Exercise and Sport Sciences), junior Scott LeJeune (Management), freshman Jordan Lopez (Finance), sophomore David Paiz (University Studies), senior Reid Redman (Energy Commerce), junior Rusty Shellhorn (History) and senior Brennan Stewart (Accounting).
Shellhorn was one of three student-athletes in the Big 12 who posted a perfect 4.0 grade point average. In addition, Shellhorn has now tallied four straight semesters with a 4.0 GPA at Texas Tech.
Red Raiders who earned second team Academic All-Big 12 include, junior Barrett Barnes (Exercise and Sport Sciences), sophomore Trey Masek (Finance), junior Jerad McCrummen (University Studies) and junior Jamen Parten (General Business).
Four Tech players picked up their second Academic All-Big 12 selection as LeJeune collected his second first team selection (2010), Redman received first team honors for the second straight year, Stewart collected his second award after receiving second team honors last year and Barnes collected second team recognition for the second straight year.
In addition, under head coach Dan Spencer - in four years - the Red Raider baseball program has had 18 first team Academic All-Big 12 selections while the previous 12 years combined Texas Tech had 17 first team All-Academic selections. Overall, the Red Raiders have had 31 All-Academic selections under Spencer while the previous 12 years combined Texas Tech had 34.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services, the Academic All-Big 12 Baseball Team consists of 34 first team members and 26 second team selections. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
