OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Texas Tech advanced to the Big 12 Conference Tournament championship game for the second consecutive season Saturday as the Red Raiders eliminated Oklahoma 4-3 from tournament action at the Southwestern Bell Brickyard Ballpark in Oklahoma City. With the win, Texas Tech improves to 42-18 overall and 3-1 in the tournament while Oklahoma drops to 40-17.
Texas Tech jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning with a run on a Ryan Ruiz groundout and two runs catcher Josh Bard's 16th home run over the right centerfield fence. The Red Raiders increased their lead to 4-2 after Bard doubled and Kevin Jordan drove him home on an RBI double, which eventually became the game winning RBI.
Cade Allison (3-2) earned the victory after starting the first 5 2/3 innings. He allowed seven hits and three runs (three earned) and walked one in his time. Reliever Brad Ralston earned his 14th career save and fifth of the season after pitching the final 3 1/3 innings and allowing three hits and no runs.
Texas Tech also received important fielding help as leftfielder Jason Landreth gunned down a Sooner attempting to score while rounding third base. Tech also got a 1-2-3 ground out double play in the bottom of the eighth to escape a bases loaded jam.
For Texas Tech, Keith Ginter doubled twice and went 2-4 with a run scored, Josh Bard went 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBI and Kevin Jordan finished 2-4 with an RBI.
