Texas Tech Will Face Texas in Big 12 Championship First Round

LUBBOCK, Texas - The 23rd nationally-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders (40-16) will be the No. 4 seed at upcoming Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. The Red Raiders will face 19th ranked and fifth seeded Texas Longhorns (36-16) at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, day one of tournament action with the game televised on FOX College Sports.

Texas Tech and Texas will then face the winner/loser of No. 1 seed Oklahoma State (41-14) and No. 8 seed Oklahoma (28-27). The winners will play at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 22 while the elimination game between the two losing teams will be at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. Oklahoma State and Oklahoma will play the 4 p.m. game on Wednesday.

Texas Tech is making its 14th appearance at the Big 12 Championship and will be making its first-ever appearance as the No. 4 seed of the tournament field. Tech is 15-26 all-time at the event and is 2-3 against Texas with its most recent meeting in 2010 when Tech defeated then-No. 1 Texas, 4-2.

Tech is 5-4 against the teams on its side of the bracket while winning 1-of-3 against Texas in Lubbock, taking 1-of-3 from OSU in Stillwater and sweeping the Sooners in a three-game series in Lubbock.

The Red Raiders and Longhorns will meet for the sixth time at the Big 12 Championship with only two meetings over the past 12 seasons. Three times Tech and UT have faced off in an opening-round game with Texas holding a 3-0 advantage in those games that were played in 1999 (L, 3-7), 2000 (L, 4-8) and 2006 (0-4).

The 2014 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship is Wednesday, May 21-Sunday, May 25, at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. All-session and weekend session passes are now on sale with single-session tickets available on Monday, May 19. Tickets may be purchased by visiting the Oklahoma City RedHawks Box Office or calling at (405) 218-1000. Additionally, tickets can be bought online via Ticketmaster at Big12Sports.com.

FOX College Sports will telecast Wednesday through Saturday's action, while Sunday's championship finale will be aired on FOX Sports 1 at 4:30 p.m. CT.
