Texas Tech Faces K-State in Big 12 Championship First Round

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech will be the No. 8 seed at the upcoming Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. The Red Raiders (25-28) will face Big 12 regular season champion and No. 1 seed Kansas State (39-16) at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, in their first game of the tournament.
The winner of Texas Tech and K-State will face the winner/loser of No. 4 seed Oklahoma (36-19) and No. 5 seed Baylor (27-25). The winners will play at 4 p.m. Thursday while the elimination game between the losing teams will be played at 9 a.m. on Thursday. Oklahoma and Baylor will play the 9 a.m. game on Wednesday.
Texas Tech is making its 13th appearance at the Big 12 Championship and its first since 2011. The Red Raiders are 14-24 all-time at the event while looking for its first victory at the tournament since 2010.
Tech is 3-6 against the three teams on its side of the bracket while winning one of three games at Oklahoma and just this past weekend taking two of three games from Baylor in Lubbock.
The Red Raiders, who were swept at K-State this season, have played K-State twice in the Big 12 Championship with a 1-1 record - both matchups coming in 2002 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Tech defeated K-State 5-4 in 12 innings in a first-round matchup in 2002 before K-State eliminated the Red Raiders 7-6 later that tournament.
The five-day, double-elimination tournament will begin on Wednesday and will conclude with the championship game on Sunday, May 26, at 1 p.m.
FOX Sports Media Group is televising the entire championship to a national audience for the first time. FOX Sports Networks (FSN) will televise the championship final. All games leading up to the final will air on FOX College Sports (FCS).
The winner of the 2013 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship earns the league's automatic bid into the 2013 Division I NCAA Baseball Championship. The Road to Omaha Selection Show will air on Monday, May 27 at 11 a.m. CT on ESPNU.
Single-session tickets will be available on Monday, May 20. All-session tickets are available from $87 for terrace reserved to $117 for box seating to $202 for club-level seats. A limited number of weekend passes are also available starting at $67. All-session tickets include all games, including the if-necessary games, totaling 15 games.
