Baseball Has Two Standouts Named to All-America Team|

OMAHA, Neb. - Texas Tech junior pitcher Shane Wright (Topeka, Kan.) and sophomore catcher Josh Bard (Englewood, Colo.) were named to the 1998 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-America Super Team Saturday, as announced during the NCAA College World Series. Wright and Bard were listed on the first team, while senior second baseman Keith Ginter (Fullerton, Calif.) was named to the second team as a designated hitter/utility standout. Wright, the righthander, is a consensus All-America. In addition to todays award, he was named to the All-America First Team sponsored by TPX/Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball Magazine, The Sporting News All-America Second Team, USA Baseball Weekly All-America Second Team, and the Baseball America All-America Third Team. He finished the season at 14-1 with a 2.71 earned run average. He completed 13 games and walked only 20 batters and struck out 116 in 152 2/3 innings.
The award gives Bard his third All-America honors this year. He was named to the Baseball America All-America Third Team and the TPX/Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball Magazine All-America Third Team. He hit 3.83 (101-264) in 60 games and had 22 doubles, 17 home runs and 71 RBI from his catcher position. Bard was also named the Big 12 Conference Tournament Most Outstanding Player in leading the squad to the tournament title. Ginter, along with Wright and Bard, was named to the All-Big 12 First Team. He finished his final season hitting .371, playing in all 64 games as the leadoff hitter. He lead the squad in doubles with 24, adding 17 home runs and 55 RBI.
The sixth annual NCBWA Super Team began with nominations from over 200 NCAA Division I schools and concluded with voting by over 300 members of the NCBWA.
