Marco Cunningham and Trey Lunsford were selected during the second day of the 2000 First-Year Player Draft by Major League Baseball on Tuesday. Cunningham, a senior, was picked by Kansas City in the 27th round (794th overall) while Lunsford, a junior, was selected by San Francisco in the 33rd round (991st overall). Texas Tech recruit Richard Fischer, a shortstop/pitcher from Riverside Calif., was picked by Anaheim in the 21st round (620th overall).

Cunningham, a Silt, Colo., native played in all 62 games this season and earned second team All-Big 12 honors from the conference coaches. He finished his Texas Tech career ranked among all-time leaders in doubles, runs, walks and stolen bases. In two seasons with the Red Raiders, Cunningham batted .335 with 34 doubles, 85 RBI and 54 stolen bases.

After backing up third-round pick Josh Bard in 1999, Lunsford, caught 61 of 62 games in 2000 for Texas Tech. The San Angelo, Texas, native hit .279 this season for the Red Raiders with 14 doubles and 33 RBI. This is the second time Lunsford has been drafted as he was picked by the Chicago White Sox in 1997.
