Jerad McCrummen Drafted in 23rd Round by Colorado Rockies|
June 8, 2013
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior right-handed pitcher Jerad McCrummen (Mesquite, Texas) was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 23rd round (679th overall) on the third and final day of the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Players Draft on Saturday afternoon.
McCrummen is the third Red Raider pitcher taken in this year's draft following junior right-handed pitcher Trey Masek who was selected in the fifth round by the Chicago Cubs and fellow reliever left-handed pitcher Andre Wheeler who went earlier today in the 15th round by the Chicago White Sox.
McCrummen tied for the team lead with three saves in 2013 while posting 22 relief outings and 33.1 innings pitched with 27 strikeouts and 15 walks allowed.
He broke the school record for most appearances by a three-year pitcher (70) and became just the third Red Raider in school history to make at least 20 appearances during three seasons. His 70 career appearances rank seventh all-time in Texas Tech history.
During his career at Tech he recorded 33 scoreless appearances and 15 multiple inning outings.
He allowed only two home runs during his career and finished his three-year stint as a Red Raider not allowing a home run in back-to-back seasons (2012-13). McCrummen's streak without allowing a home run included two seasons, 64 appearances and 1,249 pitches.
Texas Tech has also had four signees selected in the draft with right-handed pitcher Casey Meisner (Cypress Woods HS) drafted in the third round (84th overall) by the New York Mets, right-handed pitcher Thaddius Lowry (Spring HS) taken in the fifth round (153rd overall) by the Chicago White Sox, right-handed pitcher Zach Reininger (Hill College) drafted in the eighth round (246 overall) by the Detroit Tigers and today left-handed pitcher Ty Damron (Krum HS) was drafted in the 13th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
