LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior second baseman Jamodrick McGruder (Mesquite, Texas) has been named a 2012 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association third team All-America selection, the publication announced Wednesday. McGruder was one of three second baseman in the country honored.

McGruder is the 31st All-America selection in Texas Tech history and is the first Tech infielder to receive All-American recognition since 2005 (SS Cameron Blair). Overall, McGruder is the fourth second baseman in Texas Tech history to be named an All-American.

McGruder, an All-Big 12 first team selection and a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy, led the Big 12 in 10 statistical categories this season while batting .358 (69-for-193) with 54 runs, six doubles, eight triples, 27 RBI, 45 walks, .500 on-base percentage and ranked fourth in the country with 39-of-44 stolen bases.

He was a ninth-round Major League Baseball Draft pick by the Seattle Mariners while recently agreeing to terms with the Mariners organization to begin his professional career.

McGruder completed his collegiate career ranked second all-time at Texas Tech and also second all-time in Big 12 record books with 90 stolen bases.

He became the first player in Texas Tech history to lead the team in stolen bases and triples in three consecutive seasons.

McGruder led the Big 12 in numerous offensive statistical categories and ranked among the top 10 in the NCAA in stolen bases (4th - 39), on-base percentage (5th - .500) and triples (10th - 8).

During his three seasons at Texas Tech, McGruder tallied a .325 (179-for-550) batting average with 139 runs, 15 doubles, 15 triples, 11 home runs, 88 RBI, 110 walks, 44 hit-by-pitch and a .469 on-base percentage.

McGruder was one of seven Big 12 Conference players to earn All-America honors from the NCBWA, joining Oklahoma State's left-handed pitcher Andrew Heaney (First Team), Baylor's catcher Josh Ludy (Second Team), Texas A&M's outfielder Tyler Naquin (Second Team), Texas A&M's right-handed pitcher Ross Stripling (Second Team), Texas A&M's right-handed pitcher Michael Wacha (Third Team) and Baylor's right-handed pitcher Trent Blank (Third Team).

In addition, McGruder is the 30th NCBWA All-America selection in Texas Tech history.
