Tadlock and Texas Tech will welcome Damron, Moseley and their entire recruiting class in the fall

July 12, 2013

LUBBOCK, Texas - Two of Texas Tech baseball's signees for the upcoming school year have passed on opportunities to sign with Major League Baseball organizations as today at 4 p.m. CT marked the signing deadline for the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

High school standout left-handed pitcher Ty Damon (Aubrey, Texas - Krum HS) turned down an offer from the Los Angeles Dodgers after being selected in the 13th round (No. 394 overall) while local prep right-handed pitcher Ryan Moseley (Lubbock, Texas - Cooper HS) passed on a professional contract offer from the Tampa Bay Rays after being drafted in the 36th round.

Tech did have three signees drafted that did sign professional contracts while both Damron and Moseley will begin their Red Raider careers this upcoming fall.

Damron (6-3, 175) was the only draft selection the Dodgers didn't sign that was taken in the top 15 rounds. He was the District 9-3A Pitcher of the Year as a senior going 8-2 with a 1.00 ERA with 138 strikeouts and just 40 walks allowed.

Damron was the Dodgers highest drafted high school pitcher in this year's draft.

During the Class 3A regional quarterfinals, Damron struck out 17 batters in a no-hitter allowing just one walk. He also struck out 15 batters in the regional playoffs during a one-hitter.

In addition, Damron is the highest drafted incoming Red Raider to make it to campus since Chad Bettis was selected in the eighth round by the Houston Astros in 2007.

Moseley (6-2, 185) was tabbed as the No. 22 MLB Draft prospect from the state of Texas by Baseball America heading into this year's draft.

He finished his senior campaign at Lubbock Cooper High School with a 10-2 record and 1.78 ERA with 111 strikeouts in 78.2 innings pitched.

Moseley was the third high school right-handed pitcher taken by Tampa Bay.
