LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech right-handed pitcher Trey Masek (Giddings, Texas) has been named a Cape Cod League All-Star, league officials announced Friday.
Masek was the only Big 12 Conference player named to a Cape Cod League All-Star Game roster, which will be played Saturday, July 28 at 6 p.m. in Harwich, Mass., at Whitehouse Field.
Masek, who will pitch for the Western Division, is the second Red Raider to be named to a prestigious collegiate summer league all-star game joining senior-to be right-handed pitcher Jerad McCrummen (Northwoods League).
Masek is among the top pitchers in the "Cape", which is annually regarded as the top collegiate summer league in the country. He is 2-2 with a 2.28 ERA in five starts with 27.2 innings while allowing just 24 hits and seven earned runs with 36 strikeouts and eight walks allowed.
He currently ranks second in the league in strikeouts and sixth in ERA.
Masek went 2-4 with a 3.40 ERA in 18 appearances (6 starts) as a sophomore last season. He was among team leaders with 46 strikeouts while allowing 20 walks and allowing opponents a .244 batting average.
As a freshman in 2011, Masek earned All-Big 12 Freshman Team honors while going 5-4 with a 4.70 ERA while leading the team with 67 innings with 33 strikeouts in 16 appearances (11 starts).
