LUBBOCK, Texas - Freshman shortstop Bryant Burleson led the Red Team to a 3-1 victory over the Black Team in game one of the annual Texas Tech baseball Red & Black Series at Rip Griffin Park on Sunday evening.
Burleson went 3-for-3 with a double, triple and two-run home run and scored two runs to lead the charge for the Red squad. Sophomore catcher, and Lubbock native, Mason Randolph drove in the other run for the Red team while going 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
Junior right-handed pitcher Shane Broyles (1-0) earned the win in the seven-inning contest going 4.1 innings while allowing one run on five hits with four strikeouts without allowing a walk. Senior lefty Ben Flora pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief before handing off to senior All-American closer John Neely who pitched a perfect bottom of the seventh for the save.
The Black team was led by junior first baseman Scott LeJeune who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and by junior catcher Bo Altobelli who drove in the team's only run while going 1-for-3 in the game.
Sophomore right-handed pitcher Duke von Schamann took the loss for the Black team despite allowing just three runs in six innings of work with two strikeouts without allowing a walk.
Junior right hander Jerad McCrummen also pitched for the Black team as he faced the minimum in the top of the seventh inning.
