Red Raider Profile: Marshall Williams
Nov. 10, 2010
LUBBOCK, Texas - Although the Texas Tech baseball team has wrapped up its fall season, Texas Tech Athletics Communications will continue taking an inside look into the Tech program with Red Raider Profiles on each player.
Marshall Williams (INF - 6-3, 220 - L/R -Jr./TR - Midland, Texas/Lee/Midland JC)
Last season Freshman All-American Barrett Barnes anchored down the first base position for the Red Raiders. With Barnes' transition to center field for the 2011 season, first base is open for competition. One of the competitors for the starting position once spring time rolls around is junior-college transfer Marshall Williams.
Williams spent one season at Grayson County College and then played a season at his hometown junior college, Midland Junior College, before transferring to Texas Tech. Williams put up big numbers in his only season at Midland, one where he ranked among team leaders with a .418 batting average, seven doubles, three triples, six home runs and 34 RBI.
"Marshall is a good athlete, he is an offensive guy and has a chance to have some power from the left side," head coach Dan Spencer said. "We think that he has a chance to help us as a left-handed bat off the bench, he can play first base or be the designated hitter."
