As fast as Jordan Lopez made it into the starting lineup as a freshman at Texas Tech in 2011, he saw his season end with an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery.

Lopez started two games in 2011, one as the designated hitter and one in left field, and was also used as a defensive replacement throughout the first-half of the season before he was forced to have surgery on his throwing elbow.

He later received a medical redshirt which will give him back a year of eligibility and make him a redshirt freshman this coming spring.

Lopez shined in the outfield on two occasions during his brief playing action as a freshman. He made a catch up against the wall at Baylor and then added to a double play at Dallas Baptist.

Lopez entered in the ninth inning at Dallas Baptist with the Red Raiders holding a one-run lead (7-6). Lopez made the catch in left field and then relayed to the shortstop who made the throw to first base for the double play.

He came to Texas Tech after a tremendous high school career where he was a four-time All-Edmond selection. As a senior he batted .427 with six doubles, six home runs and 20 RBI while leading his team to a 36-5 overall record. He was named Oklahoma 6A First Team All-State.

"I thought Jordan had a great fall," fourth-year head coach Dan Spencer said. "We have always had the feeling that he had a knack to hit and could play all three outfield positions. This fall he showed some power, hit some balls in the gaps and hit some balls out of the park. He is in the mix to play. We are just very excited that he is back and healthy."

In addition, Lopez played high school baseball with current teammate Duke von Schamann at Edmond Santa Fe High School in Edmond, Okla. Lopez graduated in 2010 a year after von Schamann graduated in 2009.
