The Texas Tech baseball team's fall season ended with the annual Red & Black Series at the of October, but throughout the remainder of the semester Texas Tech Athletics Communications will continue taking an inside look into the Tech program with Red Raider Profiles on each player.
Blake Stewart (RHP - 6-4, 215 - R/R - Jr./TR - Midland, Texas/Midland/Midland College)
Blake Stewart graduated from Midland High School in 2009 and then stayed close to home playing two years at Midland College for coach David Coleman. The 6-foot-4, 215 pound right-handed pitcher is now at Texas Tech and is looking to make an impact out of the Red Raiders bullpen this spring.
Stewart had success in a strong junior college league the past two years while pitching at Midland College. In 2011 he went 8-3 with a 3.60 ERA with two shutouts and four complete games while being named honorable mention all-conference.
He earned all-district honors while in high school and helped lead Midland High School to the 2009 Bi-District championship and to the Area finals.
In fact, Stewart also lettered two years on the gridiron as a prep playing quarterback in 2007 and 2008 and was an honorable mention all-district pick as a senior.
"Blake Stewart had a very good junior college career," fourth-year head coach Dan Spencer said. "We weren't positive how he would fit in for us or exactly what he would do. He has always been a starter, but he has blossomed as a bullpen guy. He is a big strong kid who throws his fastball downhill. He has gone from a guy we weren't sure about to a guy we know we have to find some innings to pitch this spring because he has been very good."
In addition, the Red Raiders have had luck recruiting the Midland, Texas area as three players on this year's team are from Midland. Senior infielder Reid Redman went to Midland Christian High School and played at Midland College, freshman infielder Bryant Burleson played at Midland Christian High School and Stewart played at Midland High School and Midland College.
