Barnes Among Baseball America's Top 100 College Players

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior center fielder Barrett Barnes was named the No. 72 Major League Baseball Draft Prospect by Baseball America in its "Top 100 College Players" list for the 2012 MLB Draft. Barnes, a two-time All-Big 12 selection, was among top Red Raiders last season batting .290 (62-for-214) with 15 doubles, 10 home runs and 38 RBI with 19-of-21 stolen bases. He ranked second in the Big 12 with 41 walks and tied for third in home runs. Barnes was also second team Academic All-Big 12. Barnes, the 2010 Big 12 Freshman of the Year, enters his junior season as a Red Raider with impressive career statistics that includes playing in 114 games (114 starts) with .316 batting average (136-for-431), 118 runs, 34 doubles, 24 home runs, 91 RBI, 81 walks, .575 slugging percentage, .439 on-base percentage and 31-of-36 in stolen bases. He is coming off his second consecutive summer playing in the prestigious Cape Cod League. This past summer he helped lead Falmouth to the league's championships game. Barnes hit .308 in the post-season. Barnes was one of seven Big 12 Conference players named to Baseball America's Top 100 College Players list (2012 MLB Draft) and only the second position player as he joined Texas A&M RHP Michael Wacha (No. 9), Texas A&M OF Tyler Naquin (No. 18), Oklahoma State LHP Andrew Heaney (No. 22), Texas LHP Hoby Milner (No. 38), Texas LHP Sam Stafford (No. 43) and Oklahoma RHP Jon Gray (No. 53).
