LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Cliff Owens scored 21 points and Stan Bonewitz added 19 as hot-shooting Texas Tech beat Baylor 93-62 on Saturday night.
The Red Raiders (9-5, 1-0 Big 12) shot 53 percent from the field while Baylor (6-8, 0-1) struggled through 29-percent shooting in the first half and 31 percent overall.
Leon Morris led Baylor with 14 points, while Kish Lewis and Rodney Smith added 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Bears.
Texas Tech used a 15-7 run at the end of the first half for a 43-26 halftime lead.
Baylor hit a basket to start the second half, but the Red Raiders then went on a 12-5 run, with Owens converting a pair of 3-point plays, to pull away.
Texas Tech built a 70-41 lead with 10:38 left on a 13-0 run that included an Owens dunk, a Bonewitz 3-pointer and a pair of 3-pointers by James Ware. The Bears never threatened after that.
Bonewitz grabbed a team-high 7 rebounds, as Texas Tech out-rebounded Baylor 45-33.
