Texas Tech Beats Baylor, 80-71

WACO, Texas (AP) - Cory Carr scored 31 points, 20 of them in the second half
Sunday, as Texas Tech overcame an 11-point deficit to upset Baylor 80-71 in a
Big 12 game.
Texas Tech got revenge for a 90-78 loss to Baylor Jan. 13 in Lubbock. Tech
advanced its record to 10-8 overall and 4-4 in the conference while Baylor
dropped to 10-9 and 5-4.
The Red Raiders overcame an 11-point lead with a 12-0 spurt midway in the
second half to take a 63-61 lead with 9:17 to play on Carr's bucket after a
Tech built a 70-63 lead behind Carr but the Bears cut the deficit to 73-69
on three straight baskets by Brian Skinner, who finished with 23 points. Stan
Bonewitz hit four late free throws to put the game out of reach.
John Perkins scored a career-high 17 points for Baylor but the Red Raiders
had much more balanced scoring.
Rayford Young had 22 points, Bonewitz added 14, and Cliff Owens contributed
11 points for the Red Raiders.
Texas Tech jumped to a 9-0 lead to start the game and the Bears looked in
trouble before Perkins started hitting some rainbow 3-point shots.
Perkins hit three consecutive 3-pointers to rally the Bears and finished
with 15 points in the first half as Baylor took a 43-38 lead.
In one half, senior Perkins tied the career-high 15 points he set this year
against Troy State. He had four 3-point shots, a 2-pointer and a free throw.
Baylor built its lead to 10-points at 41-31 before the Red Raiders closed
the game just before halftime with buckets from Carr, Bonewitz and Young.
Skinners had 12 rebunds for the Bears who outrebounded Tech 45-36. Carr had
10 rebounds for the winners.
