February 10, 1999
WACO, Texas (AP) - Rayford Young scored 18 points, including a pair of key baskets down the stretch that helped lift Texas Tech to a 75-66 victory over the Baylor Bears.
The Red Raiders (11-13, 3-8 Big 12) led 60-59 with just over six minutes to go, when Young scored 4 points in a spurt that put Tech ahead 66-59 with 2:32 remaining.
Texas Tech hit nine of 10 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
Stan Bonewitz and Andy Ellis added 16 and James Ware 11 for the Red Raiders.
Kish Lewis notched his 10th double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds and Gabe Ramirez added 18 points to lead Baylor (6-18, 0-11 Big 12).
The Red Raiders picked up their third conference victory despite going scoreless for 6 1/2 minutes in the first half, when Baylor went from 15 points down to within 32-31 at halftime.
Tech led by 10 at several points in the second half before the Bears closed the gap. Lewis scored 13 straight at one point for Baylor, but Tech's free throws and rebounding edge (38-28) were too much for the Bears.
