Coach and Player Quotes

Stephen F. Austin head coach Danny Kaspar On the overall game "I thought we played a pretty good second half, first half except for the last 3 or 4 minutes, I though Tech did a really good job taking a lot out of us. We didn't do a good job closing out the first half and opening the 2nd half. I thought our defense went down considerably, Tech shot 41% the first have and 63% the second have so there's the story of the game. Our defense let us down the second half and our turnovers and a few bad shots killed us going into the latter stages of the game and that's the story of the game."

On why they lost the game "They played hard, maybe I'm to blame I didn't play some more kids a couple more minutes and played a couple of guys too much, Eddie Williams played 38 minuets and Gerald Scott probably played a few minutes too much, and maybe we let the fatigue factor get to us too much there and that may have had something to do with it. We didn't hit free throws at key moments we had two shot free throw by Scott twice and he didn't hit them. As much as you miss a shot that hurts your team it's when you hit the shot that can continue to feed the momentum instead of quiet the crowd."

On Robert Lewandowski's game "We can't have Lewandowski scoring 20 points on us. People like Roberson scoring 15 and Singletary scoring 11 is going to happen. But we can't have Lewandowski cannot have 20 and we win. Anyway, we hit the boards hard but our defense let us down."

John Roberson (Texas Tech) On his performance "The offense was going and they were giving me the shots and I felt like I should hit some more shots when I was wide open, I got into the flow of things. I felt good so I was letting it fly. Coach Knight gave me the green light, and we were down so I was just trying to help the team. We were kind of slow on offense so I wanted to take it upon myself to take good shots and try and make them."

On Mike Davis' energy "I think Mike Davis did a great job tonight. He started the game, and he was all over the floor. He was in people's space and that kind of defense sparked us. He helped us a lot and we just followed his lead on the defensive end."

Robert Lewandowski (Texas Tech) On his performance on the night "Well you have to expect it every night. I've had some bad luck lately with foul trouble but we didn't really do anything different we just played our game. We have to keep going inside out. That's going to kill teams to have that one two punch. It was just a normal offense for us."

On his second half performance "Conditioning was a big part of our preseason preparation, but in the second half I was tired. It showed a little bit with hustle stats but for the most part we did ok. Our guards did a great job of getting me the ball and it didn't feel very different to what we do in practice every day."

On comparing his performance from last year to this year "I never lost confidence last season, there was just execution and I didn't do well. But, it's great to get back and get into the swing of things. If I'm good enough to be on the floor, then I should be producing so experience helps a little bit."

Texas Tech head coach Pat Knight On Robert Lewandowski "Lew is good at the pick and roll. It's something we need to a lot more of. He's really good at feeling the guy and going toward the basket or not setting the screen and dipping. He's such a big body that he gets helps get the guards open."

On the offensive flow of the game "From an offensive stand point, we knew right off the bat we wanted a ball screen because he's (Lewandowski) is good at that but it just goes with the flow of the game of who is scoring well. "

On Lewandowski's performance compared to last year "Yes, he wasn't very good last year. The good thing is that he knows it, but that happens a frequently. Kids have a really good freshman year and then have a sophomore slump. But Robert has continued to work hard and he's been really solid these first three games. "

On Mike Davis "Mike (Davis) played strong. He did great, from a defensive standpoint. He did great on getting loose balls and deflecting the ball. On offense, he gets the ball where it needs to go and he can handle the ball His efforts help others and you saw that with John (Roberson) cutting and then Mike can get him the ball."

On the last three games "We haven't put two good halves together. We had spurts against North Texas but we didn't put it together for a long period of time and that's why we are 2-1 and not 3-0."
