Men's Basketball Downs North Texas, 84-75

DENTON, Texas - Forward Cliff Owens scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds Saturday to lead the Red Raiders past North Texas 84-75.
Owens was 8-of-12 from the floor, and Stan Bonewitz added 12 points for the Red Raiders (2-0), who outscored North Texas 12-4 in the final six minutes of the game.
The Eagles (0-2) were led by guard Dominic Hardie, who came off the bench to score a career-high 19 points. Guard Chris Davis added 13 and forward Brandon Gilbert had 10 points.
Tech shot nearly 55 percent from the floor while holding North Texas to just under 36 percent.
Tech led 45-39 at the half, but North Texas took a 69-67 lead on a jumper by Davis with 8:25 left. That's when Tech took over, hitting six of seven free throw attempts in the final minutes.
"We played well down the stretch," said Tech coach James Dickey. "We wanted to get the ball inside in the second half. I'm glad we got out of here with a win."
North Texas trailed by as many as 14 in the first half before rallying. Eagles' coach Vic Trilli said Tech's experience made the difference in the final two minutes."
