LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech 93 Baylor 62 Post Game Quotes
Quoting Texas Tech head coach James Dickey
"I thought we really played good defense tonight. Baylor's a much more athletic than last year. Leon Morris and Kish Lewis have all improved their shooting. Overall, our defense on them was good. Jevon Banks did an excellent job tonight. I thought our guys had great awareness of (Tevis) Stukes. Jevon gave us a lot of energy on the defensive end. We had good balance inside and outside on offense and we took care of the basketball. Our rebounding was good also. I thought our defense was very good. We took good shots. We shot well from the perimeter and free throw line. That certainly helped our offense. (On Rayford Young's first game back) He brings more of a presense. He's our leading scorer and best ball handler. He's a two-year starter and he gives us energy. Rayford can break down a defense with penetration. He inspired our team offensively tonight."
Quoting Texas Tech forward Cliff Owens
"Tonight was a carryover from the second half of the Nevada game. We really did a good job on the defensive end. We made them take shots they didn't want. It all starts on the defensive end. It was a whole-team effort. We were intense on defense and we came out and were ready to play. We were intense and as long as that intensity keeps going, we'll be pretty tough. Anytime Stan starts hitting like that, it really helps our offense. We put a little more into it tonight and it showed."
Quoting Texas Tech guard Stan Bonewitz
"There wasn't anything different tonight. We ran the same thing. Tonight, the guys did a great job of getting me open and I was fortunate enough to knock down the shots. It was a great team effort. For the most part, we had a great team effort."
Quoting Baylor head coach Harry Miller
"We got good shots and we got the ball inside, we just didn't convert. They did a good job of switching down inside. We didn't work enough to get a better shot on the outside. We got a lot of good looks, we just didn't convert. On offense, it's all execution. You need to look for the intelligent play and we didn't do that. Today, early on we were a little bit too excited about going into confererence. It was the first time many of these guys had seen a TV camera. Last year, Texas Tech had three good guards out there on the court and their inside game was a little weaker. This year, Texas Tech's inside attack should open up shots for (Stan) Bonewitz and it did tonight."
