January 22, 1999
Each week texastech.com will ask five questions of a Texas Tech basketball player. This week we feature true freshman Andy Ellis. Ellis is the Big 12's leading freshman rebounder with an average of 4.3 per game and is the league's second-leading freshman scorer, averaging 7.6 points per game
Q: Why did you attend Texas Tech?
A: I attended Tech just because it was kind of close to home and it's a good program on the up and up. So I came here to help.
Q; Did you think you would be having such an immediate impact as a true freshman?
A: I really didn't know what to expect coming in, but I'm glad this is the role that I've been able to be put into right now. I just try to do what I can.
Q: Talk about the transition from the high school level to the college level.
A: It's a whole different game. It is a lot more up tempo and it's more physical. But it has been fun so far.
Q: What do you think of Coach Dickey?
A: He's a good coach and he has a lot of good ideas. You've just got to listen to what he says and take it to heart.
Q: Who has had the most influence on your basketball career?
A: I would say my high school coach had the most to start with. Once I got here, Coach Dickey has done a lot for me.
