AMES, Iowa- Senior Stan Bonewitz and Junior Cliff Owens did not accompany the Texas Tech men's basketball team to Ames, Iowa, for Saturday afternoon's matchup with the Cyclones.

Owens, who suffered a sprained ankle during Thursday's practice, is expected to return for Wednesday's game at Texas A&M.

Bonewitz goes in for Saturday morning surgery due to a hernia. He's expected to return within the next seven to ten days.

"Anytime you lose two prominent starters and a veteran like Stanley (Bonewitz), it will effect your team," said head coach James Dickey. "I just hope the eight players we do have in Ames will pull together, play hard and do whatever it takes to get the win."

Cliff Owens leads the team in rebounds with a 7.8 rebounds per game average, and he's the teams second-leading scorer with a 12.7 points per game average. Stan Bonewitz is the team's third leading scorer in addition to being one of the conference's best three-point shooters (.448 three-point field goal percentage).
