LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech officials announced Thursday morning that Saturday's game against No. 19 Oklahoma State at United Spirit Arena is officially sold out.
Tipoff is set for 8:30 p.m. for the sellout between the Red Raiders (11-11, 3-6) and Cowboys (16-6, 4-5). The game will be televised on ESPNU. Fans are encouraged to wear black in support of the Blackout. It is the first sellout for the Red Raiders since Jan. 1, 2007, when Texas Tech played before a sellout crowd against New Mexico. The Red Raiders won that night, 70-68.
It is the 11th sellout of United Spirit Arena since the facility opened on Nov. 19, 1999. It is also the 17th crowd in excess of 15,000 fans. In all, it is the 78th time in the 15 years of the facility that the crowd has exceeded 10,000 for a men's basketball game.
"It is wonderful," said head coach Tubby Smith of the sellout. "It shows the hard work of a lot of people to make this happen. We hope that we can play to the level of support that we have gotten. I am excited and our players are excited. It also gives validation that we are moving in the right direction with the program." The last time Texas Tech played Oklahoma State before a full house, the Red Raiders upset the No. 6 Cowboys, 94-70. Texas Tech has won more than 60 percent of its games when playing before crowds of 10,000 or more. The Red Raiders are 6-4 all-time in sellouts of the United Spirit Arena and 2-2 against ranked teams.
Texas Tech is 9-4 at the United Spirit Arena this year and is in search of its 10th home win, which would be the most since 2011. The Red Raiders are 157-71 (68.9 percent) all-time in United Spirit Arena.
