KANSAS STATE LEADS SERIES 8-5, TECH HAS WON FOUR OF LAST FIVE
Prior to the inception of the Big 12 Conference in 1996, Kansas State held a commanding 7-1 advantage in the series. However, since the '96-97 season, Texas Tech leads 4-1, including last season's 75-64 win in Lubbock. The Red Raiders have not won in Manhattan since the league's first season. Tech's only Big 12 loss to the Wildcats came two years ago in the Little Apple.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Phineas Atchison leads the team with 12.2 points per game followed by Larry Reid's 11.0 and Travis Reynolds' 10.9 points, respectively. Reynolds leads the team on the boards with 8.0 rebounds per game, while Reid distributes the ball 4.1 times per game.
Kansas State is scoring 64.5 points per game, but yield 67.9 points to the opposition. The Wildcats hold a slight edge in shooting, hitting 42.2 percent of their shots from the field, while holding opponents to 40 percent.

RAYFORD YOUNG LEADS TEXAS TECH TO WIN OVER KANSAS STATE LAST SEASON
Rayford Young scored 25 points, including nine in the game's final four minutes, as Texas Tech knocked off Kansas State 75-64 on Saturday.
Tech (12-13, 3-11 Big 12) won for the third time in four games as Young helped the Red Raiders protect the lead down the stretch with three short jumpers and a 3-pointer in the game's final 3:50.
Kansas State (9-16, 2-12) trailed 68-59 with three minutes remaining, but the Wildcats pulled to 68-64 at 1:59 on a 3-pointer by Cortez Groves and an inside basket by Kelvin Howell. But Ronald Hobbs scored inside and Young delivered consecutive baskets in the final 90 seconds that secured the victory.

The Wildcats roared back, eventually taking a 53-52 lead at the 10:15 mark on a second-chance shot by Howell.
The teams traded the lead back and forth before Tech went ahead to stay at the 8:28 mark on a 3-pointer by James Ware that made it 60-58.
Young was joined in double figures by Ware, who had 15 points, and Brodney Kennard, who contributed 14 points and 16 rebounds.
The Wildcats were paced by Howell's 20 points. Groves finished with 17 while Quentin Buchanan added 11.

BIG 12 SATURDAYS NOT KIND TO TECH
Texas Tech has lost six-straight Saturday games, all Big 12 contests. The Red Raiders won their first three Saturday games of the season over UL Lafayette, Stephen F. Austin and Western Michigan. The last six, however, haven't come so easy -- (7) Kansas, at Oklahoma State, Colorado, at Missouri, at Baylor and at home against Texas A&M. Here's a breakdown of the last six weekend games:
LEADING AT THE BREAK
Texas Tech is 6-1 on the season when leading at halftime. The lone loss came to UTEP after the Red Raiders entered the intermission period with a 46-39 advantage.
TECH GETS FIRST WIN OVER RANKED OPPONENT IN TWO YEARS
Texas Tech's 60-59 win over No. 21 Oklahoma was the first for the Red Raiders over a ranked team since knocking off 24th-ranked Kansas 90-84 on Feb. 13, 1999. Both games were in Lubbock. The last time Tech defeated an opponent ranked higher than 21st was a 77-68 win over 11th-ranked New Mexico on Dec. 4, 1996. During that same season, the Red Raiders also defeated No. 21 Fresno State.
ELLIS NAMED TO PRESEASON TEAMS
Texas Tech junior center Andy Ellis has been tabbed by three college basketball publications as a preseason All-Big 12.
Ellis is listed as a second-team All-Big 12 selection by The Sporting News and Athlon Sports. Street and Smith's has Ellis listed as an All-Big 12 selection along with Jamaal Tinsley (Iowa State), Kimani Ffriend (Nebraska), Drew Gooden (Kansas) and Bernard King (Texas A&M).
Ellis, who injured his hand last month, averaged 16.9 points per game and 8.9 rebounds during the 1999-00 season before dislocating his left shoulder against Nebraska in the 14th game of the season that forced him to sit out the remainder of the year.
