LUBBOCK, Texas - Jon Murray has been named assistant athletic trainer at Texas Tech University, according to Natalie Steadman, Director of Sports Medicine and Head Athletic Trainer.

Murray will continue serving as the primary athletic trainer for the Red Raider men's basketball team. He worked in that role last year as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for Texas Tech.

Murray is a 1997 graduate of Texas A&M with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology. A 1992 graduate of Lubbock High School, he is currently working on his master's degree in sports administration at Texas Tech.

While an undergrad at College Station, Murray worked with the A&M football team for three years as a student assistant trainer. He also served as the head student trainer for men's tennis and was a student assistant for softball.

A resident of Lubbock since 1978, Murray is both a licensed and certified athletic trainer and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association.
