Kader Tapsoba To Compete For Burkina Faso National Team

Kader Tapsoba will represent Burkina Faso at the 2013 FIBA Africa Championships.

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech senior>Kader Tapsoba has been selected to compete for the Burkina Faso National Team at the 2013 FIBA Africa Championships to be held Aug. 20-31 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Tapsoba, who will return this fall for his senior season, is one of two college players from Burkina Faso selected to the team. The other is Bluefield State’s Samuel Ouedraogo.

This is Tapsoba’s second stint with the Burkina Faso National Team, after playing on the Under-20 National Team. Tapsoba has left to begin working out with the Burkina Faso National Team in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, Africa.

Tapsoba, a 6-10 forward from Ouagadougou, played in 27 games last season with one start. He averaged 7.2 minutes, 2.4 points and 1.6 rebounds per game with 16 blocks.

He redshirted in 2011-12 after transferring from Tyler Junior College, where he averaged 6.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocks as a sophomore.

Burkina Faso is one of 16 teams to qualify for the FIBA Africa Championships. It is also their first appearance in the event, despite being affiliated with FIBA since 1964.

Burkina Faso has drawn Group B with defending champions Tunisia, 1965 winners and two-time finalists Morocco and Rwanda. Burkina Faso plays Rwanda (Aug. 21), Tunisia (Aug. 23) and Morocco (Aug. 25). The top two teams from the group will advance to the quarterfinals. The top three teams in Abidjan will automati­cally qualify for next year’s FIBA World Cup in Spain.
