Fearless Champions Golf Classic To Tee Off On Sept. 14
![]() The Fearless Champions Golf Classic will be held Sept. 14. July 31,2012 Texas Tech Head Men's Basketball Coach Billy Gillispie and former Lady Raider head coach and Hall of Famer Marsha Sharp have teamed up to host the Fearless Champions Celebrity Golf Classic, benefitting the newly created Texas Tech Leadership Academy. The event will be held at The Rawls Course on Friday, September 14, in advance of Texas Tech's home football game against New Mexico the following Saturday. "The Fearless Champions Golf Classic will be an exciting and rewarding event that will raise money for the Texas Tech Leadership Academy," said Kirby Hocutt, Director of Athletics. "I would like to thank Coach Sharp and Coach Gillispie for organizing and leading an effort that will make an immediate difference with our coaches, staff and student-athletes. In line with our mission statement, this leadership academy will play an integral role as we educate, serve and grow Fearless Champions." Proceeds from this celebrity golf classic will benefit the Texas Tech Leadership Academy which has been established to provide leadership and mental toughness training for all student-athletes, coaches and staff. A major component of the academy has been the addition of team building consultant Mark Tribus. Tribus, a graduate of West Point and Harvard Business School, served a 20-year career in the U.S. Army which included a combat tour in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. He is now president of his own firm, Mark Tribus, Inc., where he is committed to building winning teams - "one leader at a time." "The Fearless Champions Golf Classic is a unique opportunity to impact every team at Texas Tech," said Sharp. "We hope to impact the mental toughness of every athlete which in turn will hopefully lead to more success. The funds we raise will immediately allow us to provide access Mark Tribus, one of the top team builders in the country. He is amazing. We are so proud to offer this opportunity to everyone associated with Tech athletics. We hope many folks in Red Raider Nation will help us take this step." The Fearless Champions Celebrity Golf Classic will be structured with teams of four players and one celebrity assigned to each team. A list of celebrities will be announced closer to the event. Following the round of golf, there will be an evening social event at the West Stadium Club at Jones AT&T Stadium that will include the celebrities and a special presentation from Tribus. The evening will feature a live and silent auction that will help raise money for the leadership academy. "It's an honor to team up with Coach Sharp under Kirby's leadership on something that is really exciting to me," said Gillispie. "I believe we are on to something special that will help each one of our teams. The Lubbock community is once again stepping up to make a special event happen. It should be a lot of fun." Teams of four are priced at $5,000 each while individuals can sign up and be place into teams for $1,250. About Mark Tribus Mark developed and taught leadership courses at West Point and Duke University. He regularly facilitates retreats for Young Presidents' Organization (YPO) and companies interested in developing authentic, high-functioning, and effective teams. He has conducted over fifty unique team-building experiences for elite athletic teams, including the 2010 National Champion Duke Men's Basketball and Lacrosse teams. Mark has designed and executed numerous leader development experiences for business executives, doctors, MBA programs and college merit scholar programs. Mark is a founding team member of a non-profit company (companycommand.com) that was featured in Fast Company magazine, CNN, and Harvard Business Review for its excellence in peer to peer leader development. He lives in North Carolina with his wife and two sons.
