October 12, 2012
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech officially opened the 2012-13 men's basketball season on Friday, as the Red Raiders hit the floor for the first time under new head coach Chris Walker.
"It's a great day," said Walker. "As a player, you always look forward to the first day of practice. Even as an assistant coach, you look forward to the first day of practice, but to be the first day you are a head coach and you are getting ready to work a team out for the first time, it is very gratifying and I am very happy."I can tell you this - we are going to come out with a great attitude. We are going to play hard every day; we are going to play smart every day; we are going to play together with pride; and we are going to play for the name on the front of the jersey." Practice opened with a high level of spirit and intensity, as the Red Raiders set the tone for the new season. The Red Raiders return two starters - Jordan Tolbert and Ty Nurse - and three additional letterwinners from last year's squad - Luke Adams, Jaye Crockett, Clark Lammert. Toddrick Gotcher, who received a medical redshirt, also returns to the squad after missing 22 games last season after a foot injury sidelined him for the season.
The team also includes eight new faces to the lineup for this season - Josh Gray, Dusty Hannahs, Trency Jackson, Dejan Kravic, Daylen Robinson, Aaron Ross, Kader Tapsoba and Jamal Williams, Jr. Aaron Ross is sideline for the season with a knee injury, but the other seven Red Raiders should make an immediate impact this season.
