LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech University men's basketball team plays its final pre-season exhibition game Friday against Global Sports at 7:00 p.m. CT in Lubbock Municipal Coliseum.

The contest will be the final exhibition game before the Red Raiders open the 1998-99 regular season Thursday, Nov. 19 at 7:00 p.m. CT against Texas-San Antonio in the Coliseum. The Red Raiders won their first exhibition game Tuesday night over Arkansas Express, 80-73, behind 29 points from junior All-Big 12 Conference candidate Rayford Young (Pampa, Texas) and 19 from junior forward Cliff Owens (Santa Fe, Texas). Junior college transfer James Ware (Minneapolis, Minn.) came off the bench to hit three three-pointers, including the go-ahead basket with 1:04 remaining, in his first appearance for the Red Raiders.

Meanwhile, Young was named to the Blue Ribbon College Yearbook 1998-99 Honorable Mention All-America Team. The 5-foot-11 point guard is Texas Tech's leading returning scorer with 15.4 points per game. He led the Red Raiders last season in assists (116) and steals (46). He finished second in the Big 12 Conference behind teammate Cory Carr with an 84.3 free throw percentage.
