James Dickey Looks Ahead to NMSU|

Texas Tech Head Coach James Dickey Monday Press Conference
"Well, two areas that we must improve on drastically and that is taking care of the basketball and getting boards. I have been very impressed with our defense. That was an area we wanted to make improvements going into the season. When you look at first chance opportunities, I think our defense has been very good especially at North Texas. I didnt know how our team would respond with six new guys being on the road but our focus was good and so was our intensity level. This was a game that North Texas had hyped up and was one of the few non-conference games they had at home. Our players responded well and I am glad we got the win. We just have to take care of the ball. When you look at the two guys that are hurting with turnovers are our two veteran guards. Rayford will play better he is just pressing right now and Stanley is just a little bit careless with the ball. If we get those two guys handling the ball like they need to then we feel like our team will improve. Everyone really contributed to the win. Andy Ellis got several more minutes. We are trying to play him about 16 minutes per game. Stacey Mitchell had 5 big points when we were down. James Ware had a big three and free throws. Cliff continues to lead us down low. This is going to be a team effort all year long."
On North Texas "That is like going to a snake pit. They have done a nice job recruiting and they have some 3 point shooters. We were up 14 at the half and were in control of the game. Then Dominic Hardie hit 3 threes. The first two came on second chance opportunities. I thought in the last. We got down two and then our guys took over in the last 6 minutes."
On New Mexico State "When you got to a tournament in Alaska and come out with at least one win, that is pretty good. They beat Wisconsin and played Arkansas within 6. I hope it take them about 3 days to get back, have a few snow storm and an ice storm over in Las Cruces so that they have to bus over. We will take all the help we can get. They are athletic and deep and can shoot the ball. They play hard nosed defense and have a veteran coach who will have them ready."
"This group of ten will be very close. I like the chemistry off the court. They spend time with each other and as we come together down the season we will get better chemistry on the floor."
