LUBBOCK, Texas - Quoting Texas Tech men's basketball coach James Dickey

"I was much more pleased with the effort than a week ago. UT-Arlington gave us some things to look at. They were disciplined and played hard. Stanley (Bonewitz) was huge tonight for us. He shot the ball like we want him to. He did a great job of breaking the game open. The only thing I was concerned with was second chance points. We went in and took care of business especially with final going on. We got good nights from some of the guys. Cliff (Owens) did a nice job on the boards, we shot free throws well but we didn't get to the line as much as I want us to. Stan was hot tonight. That's the way our veteran players need to play. You've got to have your veteran players carry you. Saturday night against Stephen F. Austin was inexcusable. We've got to get ourselves motivated to play and be ready mentally. Tonight we were mentally ready to play. Tuesday we were beaten by a good ball team (TCU). The difference was that we were much more active on defense."

Quoting Texas Tech's James Ware

"I thought all week that we've had tough losses the last two games. We wanted to come out and play well. It's finals week and we wanted to come out and play with energy. Stan was hot. He couldn't miss and that helps when your best shooter is hot. We've been working on our team chemistry. We are coming together as a team."

Quoting Texas Tech's Johnny Phillips

"We have been struggling and we needed to play well tonight. I'm pushing myself to try to improve and play well. Tonight, it felt good and I got some confidence from the TCU game. I just came out as hard as I could."

Quoting UT-Arlington head coach Eddie McCarter

"We struggled to score tonight. Until the ball goes in the basket, we'll continue to struggle. I thought we could make a run at them in the second half. They've lost two straight games but they kept coming at us. They hit good shots and we couldn't get them to fall. Stan Bonewitz has outstanding range and it's tough to defend him when he's back there that far. We need to maintain our intensity and not let the other team get ahead of us so quickly. We also need to do a better job of guarding the perimeter. Bonewitz really did the job for them. That's the way to get back in the game. Our defense got us back into it but then we couldn't maintain that intensity."
