Texas Tech Eyes 6-1 Start Against McNeese State

Texas Tech will look to improve to 6-1 on season as they host McNeese State at 5 p.m. on Sunday at the United Spirit Arena.

This is the third-ever meeting between the two schools, with the Red Raiders topping the Cowboys, 69-56, in 1977 and 76-75 in 2010.

Texas Tech is coming off of a 75-69 win over Northern Kentucky on Dec. 4.

The Red Raiders are 5-1 and off to their best start since Texas Tech started 9-0 to start the 2009-10 season.

Chris Walker was named the interim head coach at Texas Tech on Oct. 4 and has held just over 45 practices since that time. A win on Tuesday would improve the Red Raiders to 6-1 in his first season, giving him the fourth best start by a first-year Texas Tech head coach.

Texas Tech is 14th nationally in scoring at 81.2 points per game.

The Red Raiders are paced by one of the nation’s top sixth men in Jaye Crockett, who comes off the bench each night to contribute a team best 15.3 points and 8.3 rebounds a night. Forward Dejan Kravic added 11.3 points and 5.5 rebounds, while freshman guard Josh Gray chips in 11.3 points and 3.0 rebounds and sophomore forward Jordan Tolbert is good for 8.5 points and 5.8 rebounds a night.

McNeese State is currently 5-3 on the season and is riding a four-game winning streak, including wins over in-state rivals Louisiana-Lafayette (77-72) and Louisiana Tech (80-72).

The Cowboys are led by Desharick Guidry, who is averaging 13.4 points and 9.8 rebounds a night. He has recorded five straight double-doubles. Other double-digit contributors are Dontae Cannon (13.0 points), Jeremie Mitchell (11.4 points) and Kevin Hardy (10.5 points).
