The cannon made its return to Texas Tech's Jones Stadium this Saturday. After at least a 30 year absence, the cannon sounded immediately following the national anthem and after every Red Raider score. Bill Richard, a member of the 4th Calvary donated the Miniature Civil War Napolean replica.
The scoring drive by Texas in the first quarter, capped by a 65 yard run by senior running back Shon Mitchell, was the first time all season that Tech has been scored on in an opening possession....Tech has now scored in 104 consecutive games.
The 55 yard field goal by Jaret Greser in the first quarter is tied for second on the Texas Tech Longest Kick list. Ricky Gann kicked a 55 yarder in 1984 against Houston...The score marked the seventh time in nine games that the Red Raiders have scored on their opening possession...Tech has now scored in 104 consecutive games.
The 14 points scored by Texas in the first quarter is the most points allowed in the opening quarter by the Red Raider defense this season...the previous high was against Utah State, Kansas and Nebraska, all of whom scored seven against the Red Raiders...Texas' 21 points in the first half is the most given this season, the previous 18 point margin was against Kansas...the 28 points given up by Tech is the most since the last meeting between Tech and the Longhorns...Texas' 38 points is the most given up by the Red Raider defense since Air Force scored 41 in the Copper Bowl...The combined 70 points between the two teams is the most since Texas' 44-33 win in 1992 in Lubbock.. It is the second highest total between the two teams in series history.
Tim Duffie's interception, late in the second quarter, was his first as a Red Raider.
The 75 yard touchdown run by Ricky Williams in the third quarter is the longest against Texas Tech this season, the previous long was by Dante Hall against Texas A & M...the last time Tech allowed two opposing rushers over 100 yards was last season against Texas when Williams and Mitchell had 100 plus yards against the Red Raiders.
Zebbie Lethridge's 86 yard pass to Donnie Hart in the second quarter is the longest play, rush or pass, for Texas Tech this season...Lethridge's passes of 86 and 77 yards are the longest of the year against Texas.
The sellout attendance of 50,607 marked the third straight sellout of 50,000+...It is the first time in school history that Tech has had three straight sellouts of 50,000 plus...The attendance is the eighth largest crowd at Jones Stadium since 1983...Tech is now averaging 48,081 fans per game. That mark is just under 2,000 more than the school record of 46,083 set in 1979...Texas tech must draw 38.100 or more fans against Southwest Louisiana to break the school's all-time record.
Zebbie Lethridge's 39 yard touchdown run ties his longest of the year...his other 39 yard run was against Oklahoma State.
The 1,183 total yards between Texas Tech (608) and Texas (575) is the highest total offenseive game every played in Jones Stadium. The previous high was 1,156 yards when Tech (590) played Houston (566) in 1991...Tech's total offense of 608 yards is the most ever against Texas... The 575 offensive yards for Texas is a series record against Tech. The 392 yards passing by Tech was a series record against the Longhorns and Lethridge's 462 of total offense was an individual series record along with his 392 passing. Texas Tech's possession of 26:01 in the game was its lowest of the season and was only the third time this season that an opponent held the ball longer than the Red Raiders. Tech averaged a six minute edge this season going into the game.
Donnie Hart's five catches for 241 yards are both career highs for the sophomore split end...it is the third highest total receiving yards in a single game in Red Raider history, behind Rodney Blackshear (251 yards) against Houston in 1991 and Leonard Harris (248 yards) against Houston in 1983.
Quarterback Zebbie Lethridge passed Ron Reeves for third place in career pass attempts with 764... He also passed Reeves for third in career pass completions with 365...He also passed Reeves for third place in career passing yards with 4,758...Lethridge also moved into third place in career total offense, against passing Reeves, with 5,593 (699 rusing, 4,894 passing).
Texas Tech Director of Sports Medicine Natalie Steadman was named the Powerbar Power Performer of the Week. She is the only female head trainer in the Big 12 and believed to be one of only two female head trainers in the nation.

Hanspard surpassed the 100 yard rushing mark for the 15th consecutive time with his 22 carries for 132 yards against Texas...He has 274 carries in his carrier for 1,743 yards and needs 9 yards to pass Byron Morris for the single season rushing record at Texas Tech...He passed Byron Morris to move into second place on the Tech single season all-purpose yardage list with 1,919 yards, that total is also a school record for single season tandem yards, 1,743 rushing, 176 receiving, 1,119 total.
