Tech Among National Football Attendance LeadersRed Raiders enjoy second record-breaking season at Jones StadiumJanuary 7, 1997 LUBBOCK, Texas - For the second-straight season Texas Tech has enjoyed one of college football's highest attendance increases and, over the past two seasons, has the third-highest increase in the nation, according to statistics released recently by the NCAA. The Red Raiders recorded the 12th-highest average increase in the nation this season as 45,317 fans attended Texas Tech's five home games for an average increase of 7,135 fans per game. For the first time in school history, Tech posted three-straight sellouts surpassing Jones Stadium's capacity of 50,500. Over the past two seasons, Texas Tech has enjoyed an over 50 percent increase in average attendance, marking the third-highest total over a two-year period in the nation. Pac-10 Conference champion Arizona State, who went undefeated during the regular-season, has an average increase over 15,914 fans since 1994, while Louisiana State owns an average of 15,279 ticket holders over the same period. Texas Tech is averaging 15,153 more fans than two seasons ago. "We are really proud of the support that our football team received this season," said interim athletic director Gerald Myers. "Our entrance into the Big 12 Conference, having an exciting team that went to a record fourth-straight bowl game and a tireless group of people that all have the same objective for success all contributed to our increase in support. I would expect our support to continue to rise as we move forward with all of our athletic programs." Last season Texas Tech enjoyed the nation's seventh-highest average increase and the eighth-highest percentage increase per game at 27.3 percent. Tech averaged 38,184 fans per game in 1995, an increase of over 8,000 from the previous season. Attendance Increase Since 1994 Team 94 Avg. 96 Avg.
