Texas Tech Adds Depth to Offensive Line With Signing of Martin

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head football coach Spike Dykes announced the signing of junior college offensive lineman Dan Martin from College of the Desert in Palm Desert, Calif.

A 6-1, 300-pound offensive guard, Martin was a two-time all-Foothills Conference selection for coach Steve Dostal. He is a 1995 graduate of Cimarron Memorial High School in Las Vegas, Nev.

Martin's signing marks the 26th of the 1997 college football signing period for the Red Raiders and the fourth junior college player - all offensive linemen.

"Dan will certainly help bring some experience to our offensive line, which is a position where we need some immediate help," said Dykes. "We have a fine group of offensive linemen with varying degrees of experience in this class. That should be a position we should be strong in for the next few years."

Texas Tech signed 25 players during yesterday's first day of the NCAA signing period, including three offensive linemen who are currently enrolled at Texas Tech for the spring semester. The class has generally been considered one of the best in recent memory for the Red Raiders and one of the top 25 in the country.
