Oklahoma State-Texas Tech Postgame Notes
With a 14-yard rush in the second quarter, Ricky Williams became Texas
Tech's all-time single-season freshman rushing leader. The Duncanville,
Texas native surpassed Byron Hanspard's 761 yards on 173 carries during the
1994 season. Both players were true freshman in their initial season of
competition. Williams has 177 carries for 785 yards for a 4.4-yards per
carry average on the season.
Sophomore Kevin McCullar made his first start since the Texas A&M contest.
The Irving, Texas native suffered a knee injury against Texas A&M and
missed both the Kansas State and Texas games ... Redshirt freshman Tim
Baker made his second career start at receiver and recorded his first
career catch in the second quarter. The Borger, Texas native started the
first game of the season at Tennessee ... True freshman Antwan Alexander
regstered his first career interception to end an OSU scoring threat midway
in the first quarter ... Sophomore Rob Peters added punt returner to his
list of positions played this season. The Katy, Texas native has played
quarterback, fullback, kickoff team, punt team, holder and flanker during
his career at Texas Tech ... Redshirt freshman fullback Jonathan Hawkins
set a career-long with a 13-yard reception in the second quarter, then
broke it with a 17-yarder in the third quarter. The Wichita Falls, Texas
native also recorded a career-high three receptions in the game and set a
career-long with a 74-yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter.
Senior kicker Tony Rogers has a streak of five-straight field goals dating
back to a blocked 34-yard attempt against Texas A&M. That blocked field
goal is his only miss of the season (6-7) since taking over the duties for
Jaret Greaser, who suffered a broken leg at Nebraska.
Today against Oklahoma State Texas Tech extended its streak of not allowing
its opponents to score on its opening possession to 12 games, dating back
to Nov., 1996 vs. Texas in Jones Stadium ... Tim Baker became the ninth
freshman (true & redshirt) to catch a pass for the Red Raiders this season.
Baker, Derek Dorris, Jonathan Hawkins, Harland Hill, Dee Jackson, Anthony
Malbrough, John Norman, Mark Washington and Ricky Williams ... Brian
Roberson's 36-yard punt that went out of bounds on the three-yard-line with
12:02 left in the third quarter marked the 13th time this season Texas Tech
has pinned an opponent inside the 15-yard-line without a return ... Junior
Ty Adroin recorded a career-high 50 yard interception return in the fourth
quarter ...Texas Tech registered two interceptions today against Oklahoma
State, marking the fourth time this season the Red Raiders have recorded
multiple interception games ...Senior Adrian Ervin has a season-high 51
rushing yards on four carries today. His previous high was 29 yards on six
carries against North Texas, the first game back for Ervin after he was
cleared for a fifth year of play.
Zebbie Lethridge extended his streak of pass attempts without an
interception to 133-consecutive dating back to the Baylor game earlier this
In six of seven Big 12 games this season, Texas Tech has held its
conference opponents below their current average rushing yards. Oklahoma
State averaged 234 yards rushing going into today's game. The Red Raider
defense held them to 150. OSU's 150 yards is the third-most against the Red
Raiders this season behind Nebraska's 400.
Most penalties for a Texas Tech opponent this season is 11 by Oklahoma
State, Baylor and Kansas.
With today's interception and fumble recovery, the Red Raiders are plus-six
in turnover margin over the last two games. Texas Tech forced three
interceptions and three fumbles and did not turned the ball over against
Texas and Oklahoma State.
Texas Tech has not allowed a touchdown in seven-straight quarters, dating
back to the first quarter of last weekendis Texas contest. Texas Tech has
only allowed four offensive touchdowns in its last four games.
