Oklahoma State-Texas Tech Postgame Quotes

Texas Tech Head Coach Spike Dykes

"Well, that was a nice piece of work. I thought our guys really did a good job. They played hard. They prepared hard. I have got to give our coaches a great deal of credit. When you get in hard time you are only as good as your coaches. I am really proud of what they have done.

"It was a great game on both sides of the football. R.W. McQuarters just drives you crazy as a return guy. He nearly got loose three or four times but he didn't quite. Just a good complete football game. I thought our offensive was in control of the line of scrimmage from the very start.

"I thought our defense really did a great job. We just denied them every time they had a chance to get into the end zone. We really stopped them when they had a chance to get back into the ballgame.

"I really thought the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball was the difference in the game.

"It's a special win. We don't get much credit But it is a pretty good deal. That is the second team we have beaten this year. Oklahoma State's got a fine football team. They have a fine football program. Bob Simmons has done a nice job with this team. We just made the plays today when it counted and they didn't quite get 'em made. They really got a football team."

(On Winning the South Division and Getting a Ring)
"It is a good deal if we get it done. We are a step closer than we were yesterday. We still have another game next week and you have to take it one step at a time.

"These guys are fun to coach. I wish you had the chance I have to be around this special group of unselfish kids. They don't care who gets the credit as long as the job gets done and that is pretty unusual in todays time.

OSU Head Coach Bob Simmons' Quotes

"It wasn't one of our better performances. We didn't play as well on either side of the football. We were really flat, emotional. We couldn't get anything going, and our execution was not sharp. We had four turnovers, two interceptions, two fumbles, and we did not play as well as I thought that we would play in this ball game. It was probably one of our poorer performances all season."

"Tech had a lot to do with it. I think Tech is a good football team. I think that you have to give them credit, but I think we're better than we've shown today. We've shown that in the past, and you try to guard against emotional letdowns and I'm not sure that was the case when you go all season long and you're up and you're down and you're up. I'd like to chock it up to this is the game that we should have been ready to play but were not ready to really get it done like we should have."

(On the defense)
"We never felt comfortable. We never felt that we were on track offensively. They had a pretty good defense, but we've played good defenses all year. We never really felt that we could get on track. Our defense has been pretty decent all year, but it didn't stand the test today. They weren't coming up with big plays or forcing anything to happen."

(On the kickoff after the field goal)
"Special teams was really not that sharp. It caught up with us. We didn't tackle, and they ran it back which led to a really quick score which took some of the momentum away at that point in time."
